Was In your store yesterday on...

AI Highlights
  • - At the Jefferson store in Winnipeg, guards racially profiled my Metis husband and dismissed us.
  • - I've donated for years but won't shop there again.

Was in your store yesterday on Jefferson in WPG just checking out, and my husband was waiting at the front by the security guard. My husband said hello to him, and this guy called for another guard.

The second guy got there and said, 'You don't have to call for one person only; if there is a group...' I have to mention my husband is Métis. When they saw he was with me, they backed off and sort of covered their faces. This was so disrespectful.

I have been donating here for years, but no more, and I will not be shopping in this store either. I realize theft is a big problem, but they should use some discretion before they racially profile people.

User's recommendation: Don't shop while native

Value Village - Staff is not honest and refuse to.return the valuable donation from...
Original review updated Oct 06, 2025

I donated a green 65 L woman backpack by mistake. Inside the backpack, there is an orange color single Nature Hike tent, a purple Sea to Summit sleeping pad and a green rain cover with a small purple mat.

I dropped it off by mistake at 6925 King George Value Village at Surrey around 10:25am Thursday October 2 2025 and returned to the store same day in the afternoon and filled out the claim it back form around 4:30pm and the store manager brought it to the back for Process department to check. The staff told me it normally took 5 days to find out the result.

I visited the store the next day Friday Oct 3,2025. Meet the Production Manager Casey and wrote her an email with 2 pictures of my backpack and tent for easier verification. She said she would print it out for the staff to check.

Saturday Oct 4 2025 I called again, no result.

I called again today around 2:00pm, the 5th day after the wrong donation.

I talked to Casey, she told me not found yet.

I was so upset and assumed someone kept them without returning them to me( I wish I am wrong and miracle would come). Casey said they might have been processed and sold out or sold even before bringing them to the front.

I said that was impossible because I returned to the store same say and checked the next day , nothing outside yet.

Casey told me to check the website for customer care and that's why I am here to request for a fair, clear and justified answer for my mistaken donation.

I have been making donations to this location for so many years and trust in the loyalty of charity.

Sincerely I wish I could have a trustworthy reply and result that would sustain my belief and the next generation's belief in Non Profit Organization.

I can be reached at 604-828-**** or by email: edithyang1@***.com

Looking forward to your prompt reply.

Thank you,

Edith

  • - Seniors at Value Village Hespeler Rd in Cambridge are asked to use self-serve with staff assistance, not the regular register.
Updated by user Jan 07, 2026

I was shocked when the Hespeler Road, Cambridge store manager called me within 24 hrs calling and leaving voice mail. I might add, it was very difficult to even find a phone number to call.

Everyone is required to have a smart phone but nobody answers their phone.I had a good conservation with the store manager regarding self check out at his store. The issue was not rectified...we will have to shop elsewhere or have someone check us out for us at a self serve station.Typically I see 3 or more cashiers assisting customers...wouldn't it make sense if we could use real cashiers that are standing around anyway, so we could have positive customer service and we would be able to converse with another human being. We appreciate the follow up call. Good customer service...something that's difficult to find theses days.BEST,MARIANNE

The Hespeler Rd (2031) Value Village store in Cambridge ON Canada won't allow us ( seniors ) to go through a regular cash register...they insist we go through self serve with their assistance. We feel very strong about not to using self serve. But they will not budget.
They are training us and that *** a lot of off.

Original review Jul 23, 2025

I have been a super saver customer for many years. Last week I found out there was a 30% discount on clothing. I was told that I need to show a QR code from an email from Value Village but I did not receive such email so they refused to grant me the 30% discount.

Will you please advise why I have not received such email despite all the years that I have been receiving similar notifications?

Your early reply will be appreciated.

Terrible service

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - Told of 40% discount; no email.
  • - Long line; three managers denied the discount.
  • - Complaint process asks for credit card info.

Told on entering store that if you are a member you would receive 40% of today. My daughter and I are long time Members.

After shopping for over an hour and a half we waited in line a long time-only 1 till working out of 3. Then gave my phone number and yes I was a recognized member then we were asked to show an email coupon for the discount. Neither of us had received the email. The couple behind us in line also didnt receive the email.

I wrongly believed that after being verbally told that members received the discount and that we were long time customers who did not receive the email, that we would be given the discount. I spoke with 2 managers and all 3 of us in line were denied the discount. When I tried to lodge a formal complaint online, I was eventually directed to give my credit card info-are you kidding?!

Customers should not be told false information, they should be treated with respect-certainly not the way we were treated.

Maybe the method to make a formal complaint is purposefully made difficult so customers dont complete the process. Disgusting.

User's recommendation: Be careful. What they tell you is not always true.

What reason did the manager give for not allowing the 40% off? I know she must have given a reason.

Your sarcastic comment "have fun hanging these back up" was not necessary.

You could have simply stated you would not be back and walked out. I would venture to guess that you are probably banned from that location now.

I agree, her comment was not necessary. I am sure that the coupon stated terms and conditions which child did not read.

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Chao Pne

I think it was more so that she had a pic only of a coupon and the store required the person-specific one of their email.

Chao Pne
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-2674373

Whatever the case is she is still childish.

Guest

How long you have shopped there or what you donated has no relevance to your visiting the store that required YOUR EMAILED coupon for the discount. If you have trouble receiving emails, it is up to you to verify they have your correct address.

As for “kindly” leaving the items and saying “have fun hanging it up”?

That just illustrates what a nasty, sarcastic B you are. You definitely will not be missed.

Chao Pne
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-2673988

Not only is her comment sarcastic, but childish as well. I wonder who raised her.

They obviously did a poor job of it. I am sure that she did not read the terms for the discount.

Chao Pne

Telling the to "have fun hanging it up" because you did not get the discount is CHILDISH. Also, do you really think that because you tell EVERYONE YOU KNOW about your experience that they will stop going?

I am mortified!!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - Told to leave and unable to buy over alleged shopping habits in Puyallup, WA.
  • - Felt mortified, calls it unacceptable, and wants the issue resolved.

I came to one of your stores in Puyallup, WA, and while I was looking for shoes, two ladies approached me and told me I had to leave. They said I could not buy anything because they did not like my 'shopping habits,' which seemed absurd. I was mortified and humiliated. What does that even mean, not liking my shopping habits? This is unacceptable.

I should feel comfortable shopping there. Some people, myself included, do not have the money or simply enjoy the great deals. I should have never been told to leave or that I couldn't buy anything because someone disapproves of my shopping habits. If I was caught stealing, that would be a different matter, but I've never stolen anything in my life. I work hard for my money, and I am not going to let this go unnoticed.

I am going to take whatever action I believe to be necessary until this issue is resolved. How many other people have they treated this way? It's ridiculous. Never in my life did I think something like this would happen.

Pros:
  • Deals
Cons:
  • Can kick you out if they dont like your shopping habits
  • Horrible workers

Preferred solution: Apology
